  This Web-based course for professionals presents information about elder abuse, substance abuse as a risk factor, screening tools, intervention options and prevention strategies to curb the problem.
• NCEA's Elder Abuse Awareness Kit (2001)
  A resource kit to help educate people about the problems faced by elderly and disabled adults and how to prevent abuse of vulnerable adults.
• NCEA's Preventing Stress from Becoming Harmful: A Guide for Caregivers (2002)
  This guide provides consumers with a list of "things you can do" to reduce the level of caregiver stress. It also includes resources, with Web sites and recommended reading.

  This is a compilation of instructional resources on elder abuse prevention arranged by topic and audience.

  This online resource provides a list of toll free state elder abuse hotlines for reporting abuse or neglect.

  An overview from the National Center on Elder Abuse on the major types of elder abuse with the major signs and symptoms for each.
• Crimes Against Persons Age 65 or Older, 1992-97 (2000)
  This Bureau of Justice Statistics report provides data from the National Crime Victimization Survey and the Uniform Crime Reports on levels and rates of violent and property crimes against persons age 65 or older.
• Daily Money Management Programs: A Protection Against Elder Abuse (2003)
  This National Center on Elder Abuse report describes what money management programs are and how they can prevent elder abuse, and provides model programs and resources.
• Domestic Violence in Later Life: An Overview for Health Care Providers (2002)
  This article in a 2002 issue of the journal Women & Health reviews domestic abuse in later life, and discusses the need for screening, documentation, and referrals, including safety planning and reporting of abuse.
• Elder Mistreatment (1999)
  This article in the May 15, 1999 issue of the journal American Family Physician reviews the issues regarding elder abuse, presents findings that suggest a diagnosis, and a systematic approach to patient management.
• A Fact Sheet on Caregiver Stress and Elder Abuse (2002)
  This fact sheet provides an overview of the problem of abuse by caregivers under stress, red flags to look for, and things that can be done by agencies and community members.
• The Health Care System: Addressing Elder Mistreatment (2003)
  An annotated bibliography from the Clearinghouse on Abuse and Neglect of the Elderly of recent publications that address the role of physicians, nurses and others in preventing and addressing elder mistreatment.
• The National Elder Abuse Incidence Study (1998)
  This National Center on Elder Abuse report describes the results of a national study on domestic elder abuse, revealing that reported cases are the "tip of the iceberg."
